Starting early in EVs and batteries, the US gave up the lead to China. I can also think about small modular nuclear reactors where large industrial houses showed little interest. With energy transition, the US is moving away from its strong oil and gas position into a space where China is very well positioned globally. Without a thoughtful innovation strategy that extends to commercial scaling, we will not be able to create any demand for American technology.
