Sense of urgency

Sense of urgency

There are several salient points in this interview particularly the need for a “sense of urgency for innovation, markets, regulations, and policies to change market rules”. It is astounding that for over a decade the utility industry has been watching the duck curve and moving at a snail’s pace to address the fundamental problems. It is about time Utility boards, and their CEOs shed their legacy mindset and execute a customer-back strategy to deliver their product better and cheaper. This requires an innovation engine to fire on all cylinders to manage flexible loads, introduce dynamic pricing, and balance the changing resource portfolio. It is appalling that despite a high penetration of smart meters, only 10% of the customers are on time-of-use rates.
